Abandoned Objects and Instructions
Two writing prompts from our Pen to Paper sessions to feed your creative minds
Abandoned Object
Choose an object in the room that you are in. It can be something really ordinary, unremarkable.
Imagine this has been found at an archaeological dig years into the future. Write the description that sits next to it in the museum. What story might someone from the future tell with this object?
E.g. a deteriorating deodorant could tell us the story of someone going on a date, the beginning of a relationship
E.g. a battered saucepan could tell us the story of all the people who might cook with it, eat from it
Instructions
Write a series of instructions:
Write instructions for: peeling an orange
Write instructions for: how to cry
Write instructions for: dreaming and/or having nightmares
Please share your writing in the comments if you’d like!

Sit or stand. It doesn’t matter really. Your body knows.
Don’t think of something sad. This is some trick you think they teach in actor classes. They don’t. You don’t have to think of anything. It’s here anyway.
How to cry depends on how you are. Deeply. Sincerely.
Be sincere. Always. Even if it hurts. You or the other. To hurt another usually hurts you in return. You don’t have to think of something sad. He has dumped you. He has hurt you. You are already sad.
Hurt him.
Do it the hard way.
Hurt him so bad that you’re gonna feel it as if you’re the one you’re trying to harm.
Unleash.
Do not hold back.
To hurt him might save you. It might destroy you as well. Do not care. Hurt him anyway. Him, her, them. Don’t hold back: they deserve it.
Look at him when he’s finally down.
Remember that you love him. Her. Them.
Remember: he dumped you. He hurt you first. Unleash your fury. Remember how you felt.
When you hurt him you it feels like you’re hurting yourself. That’s how much you love him. Still. Despite all that he said. All that he’s done.
You love him.
He’s down.
You have made it worst for him than it was for you.
You have won this stupid battle.
Look at him.
There won’t be no going back.
You sit.
Or you stand.
It doesn’t matter.
He doesn’t matter. She. They.
You’re alone.
Now you can cry.
Amazing
